Starting in Istanbul, we explore the incredible architectural wonders of this vibrant city before journeying on to Cappadocia; one of the worldi 1/2 s truly awesome landscapes. A myriad of deep, volcanic valleys, bizarre rock formations and fretted ravines have been sculptured over eons by wind and water. This surreal, otherworldly terrain is best explored on foot. We walk through the valleys and discover the distinctive, banded colours, i 1/2 fairy chimneysi 1/2 and rock cones unique to each. A land that has been inhabited by man for thousands of years, we explore intricate cave dwellings, rock-cut churches, monasteries and elaborate underground cities. From Cappadocia, we head to the religious town of Konya, the white terraces of Pamukkale and the fabled Greco-Roman ruins of Ephesus, before continuing north and paying homage at the battlefields of Gallipoli. TRIP CHANGES FOR 2017: From 1st January 2017 this trip will increase by 2 days to become a 12 day itinerary. The trip will also now depart on Wednesday instead of Friday. These changes come as a result of traveller feedback and will allow us to travel at a more relaxed pace and include additional days in Selcuk and Ayvalik. In Selcuk you will have the chance to further explore Ephesus or the town of Selcuk. In the coastal town of Ayvalik take a guided tour of the city with your leader and we have included a meal of the local delicacies of the region. To cover the cost of the extra days, a surcharge to the current advertised price is likely to apply to this trip when the full itinerary is launched in the coming months.
